Dear All,

Gaurav underwent Bone Marrow Transplant on 7-Oct-2009 at CMC Vellore. Although a bit late since his disease had relapsed on July 09 and he had to undergo salvage treatment, doctors could find a good match from an Italian Donor. As soon as the stem cells arrived at CMC Vellore, the medical team at Vellore immediately carried out the transplant.

Gaurav was moved into an isolated BMT Unit in the hospital on 2nd Oct 2009. He was finally discharged from the hospital on 25th Nov 2009 after spending the critical period of transplant.

Friends, we are here today because of support from you and with the grace of God. We were fortunate enough to collect enough funds, to find the right donor, and have the transplant done just in time. All this can't be dreamt of being achieved by any individual in isolation. It has been teamwork at all levels; support from all of you; be it money or be it prayers. An important point to be underlined here is that money alone could not (and still can't) have helped us fight this battle.

As this fight is expected to be a long drawn one, we request you to keep him in your prayers...!

For our friends visiting for the first time:

Gaurav Tandon is a 34 year old professional working with Datacraft (Dimension Data) in Mumbai, India. His small family comprises wife, a 7-year-old son. He has two elder sisters and a brother who is serving as a Major in the Indian Army.

Gaurav was detected with AML (a type of Blood Cancer) in November 2008. He responded well to chemotherapy but had to get a Bone Marrow Transplant done as the only possibility for a cure. Unfortunately, the HLA typing test of his siblings was tested negative. Doctors had strongly recommended a Non-Related Allogenic transplant.

In order to meet the steep cost of the said operation, we had run "Help Gaurav" campaign. We got tremendous support from friends across the world and we were able to collect the funds in about 3 months.

Finding the right donor for Gaurav was another challenge. Fortunately, with God's grace, doctors at CMC Vellore did find a good match in an Italian donor. With these stem cells, Gaurav went through the transplant on 7-Oct-09.
